If you're working on your translations and aren't ready to display your new languages yet, SiteTran offers a simple way to hide the language dropdown until you're ready to go live. This is useful for testing without showing the language dropdown to visitors.

Note that this will not only hide the language dropdown but stop it from being generated altogether.

You can still view your translations by adding ?sitetran=on at the end of a URL.

Why Hide the Language Dropdown Before Going Live?

You might want to hide the language dropdown for a few reasons:

  • Stop language selection before translations are ready.
  • Ensure a smooth user experience by avoiding incomplete content.
  • Keep your site clean and professional until you're ready for multilingual visitors.

How to Hide the Language Dropdown in SiteTran

This setting is available under Settings > Advanced Settings > Publishing Settings in your project dashboard.

Steps "Hide All Widgets On Site"

  1. Log into SiteTran and navigate to the Settings section.
  2. Click on Advanced Settings from the menu.
  3. Scroll down to Publishing Settings.
  4. Locate the option "Hide All Widgets On Site (dev mode)".
  5. Toggle the switch to ON to hide the language dropdown.

What Happens When You Toggle This?

  • All SiteTran language dropdowns will be hidden across your website.
  • Users won’t see any translation option until the feature is turned off.

How to Preview the Language Dropdown While Hidden

Even when this setting is enabled, you can temporarily view the language dropdown for testing purposes.

Simply add ?sitetran=on to the end of your website’s URL.

Example:

https://yourwebsite.com/?sitetran=on

This allows you to preview the language selector without making it publicly visible.

How to Make the Language Dropdown Live Again

Once you’re ready to go live with multiple languages, you can re-enable the dropdown:

  1. Return to Settings > Advanced Settings > Publishing Settings.
  2. Locate "Hide All Widgets On Site (dev mode)".
  3. Toggle the switch OFF to make the language dropdown visible again.
